Mobile temple recommends (Phone-based recommends) are now available churchwide through the Tools app. However, you must go through your bishopric to obtain a mobile temple recommend. Also, you should be aware that once your mobile temple recommend is activated, you can no longer use your paper temple recommend.

Recent guidance from the Church Headquarters:

• • A member of the bishopric or the ward clerk may switch from a paper to a mobile temple recommend (or vice versa) without restarting the interview process—but only if the same bishopric member and stake presidency member who originally signed the recommend are still serving in those callings. A member of the stake presidency or the stake clerk may also make this change; however, it is preferred that ward leaders handle these changes.

  • To issue a mobile temple recommend, the member’s profile must include a recent photo that clearly shows the members face. Group photos (e.g., couples or families) or images where the face is obscured (e.g., due to glare on glasses) are not acceptable.  If the photo does not clearly show the member’s face, the temple may decline to accept the mobile recommend.

In addition, you should also be aware that to use a mobile temple recommend, you must have:

• iOS 17.0 or newer or  Android 8.0 or newer; and

•  Member Tools 5.0
